My Colony Project

DUE DATE: WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 24

•In this project, you will be assigned one of the original 13 colonies to research and report on. As an expert on your assigned colony, you will create a poster of the colony and give a presentation to the class that reveals the culture and characteristics of your new found land.
•Before you begin your poster, you should conduct some research on your assigned colony. The following websites will be helpful as you find interesting facts on your colony.

ohttp://www.timepage.org/spl/13colony.html
ohttp://www.socialstudiesforkids.com/graphics/13mapnew.htm
ohttp://www.rcs.k12.va.us/csjh/colonies.htm
oTry to avoid Wikipedia. The information on this site can sometimes be unreliable.

• Be sure to summarize the ideas in your own words; if you copy it word-for-word, then you are committing plagiarism!

•As an expert on your assigned colony, you will create a poster that addresses the following questions:
oWho was the founder of the colony?
oWhat were the economic characteristics of the colony?
oWhat was the predominant religion?
oWhat Government was established in the colony?
oWhy did the founders leave Europe to find the colony?

Your poster should reflect the colony in the following ways:
oPosterboard is 2 ft. x 2 ft. (no smaller than 8 in. by 11 in.) and is shaped like the colony (optional).
oAll of the key ideas are written on the posterboard.
oThe information must be accurate and all words should be spelled correctly.
oAt least five visuals should accompany the written aspects; these may be from the computer or drawn by hand.
oIt should be neat, colorful, and visually appealing.

On the back of your poster include the answers to the following questions.

oWhat are three unique qualities about this colony that would draw families from Europe to live here?
oWhat are the key aspirations people have in this particular colony?
oIf you had to choose one of your teachers to live in this colony, explain, in detail, who it would be and why.
